Like most of us, I started with pump fuel and a carefully measured amount of 2 stroke oil. But several years ago I heard about Aspen fuels and their cleaner burn, less toxins etc.
About the same time, I was selling off my old Dinosaws for more modern (and reliable) machines.
Having read, and spoken to quite a few people about the benefits of alkylate,
I thought I’d run all my new machines on it.
My local dealer sold both Aspen and Stihl motomix, so I got a few cans of each.
The biggest difference I noticed other than the price, was if I used a colleagues saw running on pump fuel.
I’d spend 10-15 seconds being all nostalgic about my old saws, before starting to feel nauseous.
Now I order it in 55 litre barrels,
less plastic waste.
Run the 881 on Motomix. Do use a dust mask of sorts but it wouldn't filter the fumes. Fumes- unavoidable- are more tolerable. I know there will be a health impact but hopefully not as severe as pump fuel. Yes, there is cost but I always hope to recover this in any product.
I'm also looking at the longer working life of the saw, as an amateur I must consider. It was a big outlay on a hobby! I haven't made the leap to 55l drums as I'm not happy about a suitable transfer system. Yet! Won't go the Aspen route purely because I'm happy where I am, so why change? Apart from all that, not going back to pump fuel unless there is a really , really good reason.
